Why Choose Lyrebird
Learning that grows from curiosity, culture and Country
Lyrebird Preschool welcomes children aged 3 to 5 years. We offer a 2-day program for 3-year-olds, and 2- or 3-day options for 4-year-olds, depending on your family’s needs.
At Lyrebird, children are encouraged to explore, connect and discover in an environment shaped by nature, culture and community. Our inquiry-based approach supports children’s confidence, creativity and resilience as they learn through real-world experiences and respectful relationships.

Learning on Country
Our connection to Country is central to our philosophy. Children regularly explore natural environments — including the bush and beach — where they learn to observe, ask questions, take informed risks and engage deeply with the world around them. We bring these experiences back into the classroom, weaving together cultural learning and environmental care. This connection to place helps foster a deep sense of belonging and responsibility.

An Environment Designed for Growth
Our leafy outdoor spaces include native gardens, a yarning circle, and a fire pit — all intentionally created to support curiosity, culture and community. Indoors and outdoors, children have opportunities to investigate, build, create, and learn through meaningful play.
Activities like harvesting lillypillies, making jam, composting, or collecting worm juice help children understand natural systems and see themselves as active participants in the world around them.

Risk-Informed Play and Resilience
We believe in supporting children to take informed risks. Whether they’re climbing, using real tools, or navigating new environments, children learn how to assess safety, build confidence, and develop resilience through hands-on experiences.

Cultural Learning and Belonging
Lyrebird Preschool is committed to honouring cultural diversity and fostering a strong sense of belonging. We work closely with our local Aboriginal community, who are welcomed into the preschool to share knowledge, stories, and cultural practices.
We proudly reside on Wandi Wandian Country, acknowledging and respecting the traditional custodians of the land, including the Dharawal and Dhurga language groups of the Yuin Nation. Through shared experiences and seasonal projects, we help children build meaningful connections to Country, culture and community.

Preparing Children for Life, Not Just School
Our curriculum is guided by children’s interests and questions. We focus not only on school readiness but on nurturing kind, thoughtful and confident learners who are curious about the world and capable of making a difference.
